Nancy Knode and Harbor Healing Center
11/01/2007
In January of 2001, after spending several weeks in China to complete my acupuncture internship, I leased a small room in the Harbor View Plaza building, and opened Harbor Healing Center, Kingston's first acupuncture clinic. Four years later, I moved my practice to its current location upstairs in the Old Kingston Hotel.
During the seven years that I've been in practice, I've treated a multitude of different conditions. Some of the more commons ones are: headaches and back pain; TMJ; pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia or injury; chronic fatigue; PMS; menopausal symptoms; digestive disorders; and stress. Just about any health condition can be helped to some degree with a series of acupuncture treatments. Depending on the severity, the problem may be completely alleviated or simply improved.
The questions people often have when considering acupuncture are "Does it hurt?" and "Is it safe?". My style of acupuncture is very gentle and the needles are extremely thin, so most people experience little discomfort. In fact, generally people are surprised when they realize how deeply relaxing the treatments are. As far as the safety issue, the needles are disposable, so it's a very safe procedure.
I offer individual treatments, which are often covered by insurance, by appointment Monday through Friday.
In addition to the private treatments, I offer a walk-in clinic on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 am to 11:00 am. The treatments are $25 a session (with a $10 set up fee the first visit). This clinic is modeled after the style of acupuncture practiced throughout China, where one practitioner treats several patients simultaneously. I'm very excited to be able to offer acupuncture in a setting that makes it more affordable and accessible.
