A New Special Events Company Comes to Town
05/08/2008
by Linda Fyfe
Back in 1989, when Linda and David Fyfe moved down
to Kitsap County from B.C., Linda had no idea that it would
take 19 years in order for her to get her green card and do,
again, what she loves most — planning events.
At Simon Fraser University, Linda was part of the
Conference Services Department where she had a part on
putting on small Departmental meetings, interdisciplinary study
events, through to large, international 1,000-delegate conference
which filled up 3 of Vancouver’s main hotels. The job took
her from campus, to downtown Vancouver, to Vancouver
Island, and even up to Whistler. Working with the public, with
changing venues, on varying projects seemed to be her calling.
As a project-oriented person, she loved working for months,
or even years, on one event, right from the first idea, through
the budget creation, the designing of the brochures, taking and

inputting registrations, through to Registration Day, all
the details involved in the execution of the event, and
then to tie it all up with a bow at the end of it all, and
open the next file.
Her passion for event creation followed her
down here in her work with the Kingston Co-op
Preschool, Wolfle, KJH and KHS as PTA President,
with PAWS of Bremerton, and on to other adventures
with other groups.
Then, in March of this month, it all came
together with the delivery of a work permit. This finally
meant that all she’d been doing over the years — she
could now be paid for!
That was when EBL - Events by Linda was
created. Her classes at Olympic College helped her write
a business plan and think long and hard about what this
company was going to do and how it was going to do it.
EBL - EVENTS BY LINDA is designed to
fill a niche that is created when an organization or
individual wants to put on an event - company picnic,
50th Anniversary, Family Reunion, Trade Show, Annual
Banquet, etc., and has no clue how to begin. Linda’s
experience in budget creation, venue and entertainment
coordination, and food planning is all based on the many
wonderful relationships she’s formed over the years as a
volunteer. Many of her connections are local, which is
another benefit to the community.
Her most recent events include - in her capacity
as Special Events Coordinator for the Chamber of
Commerce — the monthly business chamber luncheons,
an Evening of Elegance at the Suquamish Clearwater
Resort (the First Annual Chamber Banquet), the
WestSound Business EXPO at the Kitsap Pavillion. In
addition, she’s had a hand in the Kingston High School
Grand Opening, the Senior’s Orientation and many
other school events.
EBL’s first event, in coordination with the
Downtown Kingston Association, will be
WALK KINGSTON - an idea created by Nancy Tietje,
for a town-wide event on Saturday, June 21 — the
longest day of the year. The idea is to have as many
organizations and businesses open and available from
4-9 PM so that the public could come down and follow
a map — stampable passports will be given to the kids
to complete and return the where they got them in
exchange for a small prize. Stillwaters is already on
board to plan something special for the Summer Solstice,
and the Farmer’s Market has been approached.
So if you have a plan for a special time in your
life and just don’t know where to begin, give Linda a
call at (360) 297-7253 or email her at oceandream76@
hotmail.com and she’ll be sure to create an event that
will be fondly remembered for many years to come.
