Hood Canal Bridge Partnership Project
10/26/2007
The Hood Canal Bridge will be closed to traffic for six weeks in May-June 2009. This closure will allow the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to replace the east half of the bridge – improving bridge safety and keeping traffic moving. WSDOT has a plan to help drivers get around during the closure, and we need your help to get the word out. We are partnering with businesses, schools, communities, development groups, freight companies and many others to educate and prepare the public for the six-week bridge closure.
What does it mean to be a partner?
A partnership with the Hood Canal Bridge Project Team simply means agreeing to use your contact lists to get the word out about the closure. Project partners distribute information using email lists, websites, blogs, signs, and newsletter articles. Materials to distribute could include maps, brochures, signs or project updates.
Who can be a partner?
Partners can be individuals, organizations, companies, governmental agencies, nonprofits – anyone who wants to help out.
What are the steps in this partnership?
1. Agree on what WSDOT and your group can do as part of the partnership.
3. Set up a way to distribute information. This could include:
a. Forwarding project updates to your e-mail lists
c. Posting information at your workplace
d. Publishing articles/information in your publications
e. Requesting a speaker from the Hood Canal Bridge Project team
4. Promote the importance of planning ahead so travelers can find alternative options. These include: carpool/vanpool, water shuttle, transit, adjusted work schedules, and alternative routes.
5. Give us feedback on the communication and outreach activities.
