Understanding Your Prescription Drug Coverage

If you currently have health insurance, you are no doubt aware how important your prescription drug coverage is to your overall plan. This coverage plays a very large role in the security that your health plan provides and limits your financial exposure on a yearly basis.
Here are a few statistics relating to prescription drug coverage from the Kaiser Family Foundation:
• Over half (54%) of adults currently take prescription medication and one in five (19%) say they take four or more medications per day.
• Four in ten adults (41%) say it is at least somewhat of a problem for their family to pay for prescription drugs they need, and 16% say it is a serious problem.
One of the ways to control your prescription cost is to access a health plan through a group rather than an individual policy. All individual policies in Washington State cover at most $3000 of prescriptions per year, whereas group coverage will normally provide a lifetime benefit of $2,000,000.
