FIFTH OF JULY!
07/30/2008
What a beautiful day! What an appreciative crowd! Yes, once again the planners of the Kingston Fourth of July Celebration gave us what we wanted and then some. Although some wayward ferry delayed the start of the parade, the biggest crowd ever lined the parade route. The late ferry passengers were greeted by cheers and accolades from the crowd as though they were part of the parade going the opposite direction. The crowd was from mellow to exuberant and very receptive. The people IN the parade had nothing but praise for the crowd. Kingston folks just know how to have a good time. As always, our Fourth is a family affair and hundreds of families visited Tiny Town and the Kingston Farmer’s Market. The Kingston Revitalization Ball Race sold out and had its largest audience ever for the actual race. The hoot of the day was the wind which kept wanting to blow the balls up the hill instead of down. Finally Bill Robertson of Edmonds won the grand prize. Two other heat winners were Margaret LeMay and Mooney. The first ever 5K was a big success and took the runners from the marina parking up and around the highschool and back.
Many thanks and accolades to the group of volunteers who make the celebration happen for all of us. There is a tremendous amount of work involved in setting up and tearing it all down again afterwards. Great job! Please put it on your calendar to volunteer next year. There are many places and many different kinds of jobs to be done.
